Behaviour and design of hybrid RC beam-to-steel column connections

This paper deals with the performance and design of hybrid connections between steel columns RC beams by means shear-keys, through detailed nonlinear numerical assessments in which influence key geometric material parameters on ultimate behaviour is examined. The simulations employ concrete damage plasticity modelling procedures are validated against test results members. Extensive parametric involving over two hundred three-dimensional models carried out, focus effects varying shear-key embedment length section size, longitudinal transverse reinforcement ratios, strength, cross-section size. enable an in-depth understanding main mechanisms governing response can occur shear, flexure, crushing a direct strut at steel-to-concrete interface, or yielding column face. Based findings from coupled observations, expressions proposed for critical regions shear-key. suggested shown to provide reliable predictions across wide range length-to-depth thus offering simple method suitable application shear-keys practice.
